ANM And GNM

ANM (Auxiliary Nurse Midwife) and GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery) are two different nursing courses that are offered in India.

ANM is a diploma course in nursing that is of two years duration. The course is aimed at training nurses to work in rural and semi-urban areas, where there is a shortage of medical professionals. The curriculum of the ANM course covers topics such as anatomy, physiology, first aid, community health, and nutrition. ANMs are trained to provide basic medical care, including administering vaccinations, dressing wounds, and providing maternal and child health services.

GNM, on the other hand, is a diploma course that is of three and a half years duration. It is aimed at providing nursing education to individuals who want to work in hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare facilities. The curriculum of the GNM course covers topics such as anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, nutrition, and medical-surgical nursing. GNM graduates are trained to provide nursing care to patients, including administering medication, managing IV lines, and providing wound care.

Both ANM and GNM are recognized by the Indian Nursing Council and the respective state nursing councils. After completing the course, the graduates can work as nurses in government hospitals, private hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare facilities. ANMs can also work as midwives and provide maternal and child healthcare services. Additionally, both ANM and GNM graduates can pursue higher education in nursing and related fields.
